The Selection Process
Doctoral applicants: Departments, in the first instance, will interview applicants for the purposes of admission. A select number of candidates offered admission will then be invited to a second interview for a College PhD studentship (and AHRC award, if appropriate). The second round interviews—in person or via telephone—will likely occur in mid-March, but no later than 18th March 2010. The College will allocate all studentships by 31st March 2010. For further details please consult the Director of Graduate Studies in your chosen department.
Master’s applicants: Departments will scrutinize all applications in a desktop review and identify those candidates that it deems to be most competitive for College bursaries (and AHRC awards, where relevant). In the Departments of Drama, English and History, the College will allocate master’s awards by 31st March 2010. In all other departments, the College will allocate master’s awards by 21st June 2010. For further details please consult the convenor of your chosen master’s programme.
All candidates for Queen Mary studentships or bursaries will be judged according to the same criteria:
- academic and professional achievement
- quality of research proposal
- compatability with Queen Mary’s research strengths
