Senescence is the final phase of leaf development and critically for the remobilization of nutrients to sink tissues. Senescence is a highly complex and regulated process wherein cells undergo drastic biochemical and structural changes. For the identification of key genes/proteins and regulators that are involved in nitrogen reallocation during leaf senescence in oilseed rape and Arabidopsis we are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our young research team

At the Institute of Biology, Free University Berlin, a PhD position in plant molecular genetics is available from May 1, 2009.

PhD candidates need to hold a diploma/master degree in biology or equivalent qualification. Applicants are expected to have a broad knowledge and adequate laboratory experience in plant molecular biology, genetics and physiology and should have a strong interest in plant nutrition. Knowledge in bioinformatics is an advantage. Good knowledge of English is required.

The position (50% BAT IIa/TV-L E13) is initially funded for three years by the DFG Forschergruppe FOR948 “Nitrogen uptake, metabolism and remobilization in leaves during plant senescence”.
