MSc Studentship on High Performance Computing Based Evolutionary Optimisation, Cranfield University, UK
Supported by Hewlett Packard and Cranfield University’s IT Department, a studentship of up to £10,000 p.a. for 1 year plus fees* is available.
Cranfield University is seeking a highly motivated graduate to undertake this exciting collaborative research project supported by Hewlett Packard.
Evolutionary computing, an optimisation and search method based on the principles of natural evolution, has established itself as a technique that promotes innovation by exploring beyond what human designers can perceive. The aim of this project is to develop high performance computing (HPC) based evolutionary computing methodologies for dealing with high-dimensional optimisation problems. These methodologies will be structurally based on utilising the features of state-of-the-art grid computing facilities. The developed methodology will be applied to a real-life problem from the Defence sector dealing with flight-trajectory optimisation of modern tactical missiles to meet the challenge of highly manoeuvrable targets.
Technical Schools Research Students Training Programme
The successful candidate will attend Cranfield University’s ‘Technical Schools Research Students Training Programme’ which is designed to equip students with research skills required during their research studies and in their future careers. This programme consists of a series of ‘one-day events’, coupled with smaller interactive group sessions.
